Opening Concert

Beginner´s Guide  - We kick off with a wonderful, energetic piece by Shostakovich for 8 string players, followed by a hypnotic masterpiece by Estonian Arvö Pärt - this is one of those pieces where it feels like time stops, truly magical. Then we have a quartet by this year´s festival composer, who happens to be a good friend of Pärt and who will be with us. The concert ends with one of Beethoven´s greatest and most beautiful piano trios, the ´Archduke´. Click here for a taste of the music.

Beginner´s Guide - We start this concert with magical piano music which, on the surface, can seem only beautiful and innocent. That it is, but you can also sense an undercurrent of something else, perhaps… Then we have a phenomenal violin sonata by Prokofiev followed by Debussy´s fascinating string quartet. Bad Boys of Music

Beginner´s Guide - This concert opens with a short piece by our festival composer which is both poetic and rhythmically exciting. Then a violin sonata by American Goerge Antheil that is like nothing you´ve ever heard before. A real challenge for the musicians, but utterly fabulous and entertaining. (The tittle for this concert is taken from Antheil´s autobiography). Then Stravinsky´s playful ´Soldier´s Tale´ that is simply delightful, and we end with one of the modern classics by Shostakovich. Beethoven ´s Greatest Hit

Beginner´s Guide - The first half of this concert is dominated by the deepest of the string instruments, the double bass. Opening with a fantastic solo piece by arguably Norway´s greatest modern composer, then a duet for bass and violin by our festival composer. Next a wonderful clarinet piece by the french master Debussy, before we crown the concert with Beethoven septet - the piece of his that was played more than any other during his lifetime. Beginner´s Guide - In this concert you can here two of Brahms´most wonderful pieces - his clarinet trio and his horn trio. This is romantic, rich and tender music. Beginner´s Guide - We round off the festival with simply fabulous music. A last glimpse from our festival composer, heart-warming songs by Schumann and a piece by Bartok that was written for the legendary jazz clarinetist, Benny Goodman. Mendelssohn´s Octet stands in many ways for itself. Written when he was just 16 years old, this is half an hour of pure exuberance. We expect the roof to lift! Click here for a taste of the music.
